7 Keys to Running Improvement - Part 1

by: Liam Cain

The number one key to improvement is: Motivation! Sounds simple and it is. Think about it you really have to be motivated to get up on a cold morning and run. You have to be motivated to stick with your training plan. This enables you to hit the second key to improvement: Consistency! Regular, relatively injury and illness free training over many months and years produces results - that's a fact! All the successful athletes we have ever met, worked with or coached have these two keys: Motivation and Consistency in abundance.

Let's explore Motivation a little deeper. I don't care how good you are, how much you love it, sometimes we all go through patches were things aren't clicking or there is no buzz from the thing we like doing best - running.

This is a good time to read a book from an inspirational athlete or role model! One of our favourites is Running My Way by Harry Wilson.

Another idea is to find a new location for a training run. Imagine running to the top of a hill to find a truly inspiring view! The possibilities are endless. When you look at the training schedules at middle distance coach you will see a commitment to continuous running. Don't skip this part because it looks boring when all you want to do is scroll down to the hard track sessions (I know you did because I was the same!). Instead when 3 or 4 steady runs are pencilled in, be creative! Yeah, be creative and think, Great! This is 4 opportunities to find inspirational, relaxing and down right invigorating locations to help me escape from the world! Suddenly steady running becomes fun!

Try and find some new running buddies or encourage a friend to take up the running bug! Enthuse someone about the fun and feeling of well being you get from your running. It will help to fire you up as well. Always remember to be proud of your fitness, you deserve to because you earned it!

Motivation will help your running consistency. Training hard for a week or two then taking a breather for another week or so is not the best way to become a better runner. Looking back at diaries and knowing you have put a lot of consistent, solid training in the bank is a guaranteed path to an upswing in your running. Aim to make 2006 your most consistent training year! Of course don?t stop there. You would then aim to make 2007 your most consistent season!

Remember the first two keys to running improvement:

1.	Motivation

2.	Consistency

Now tell me. Doesn?t all of this get you buzzing and want to put on those trainers and just run!

About The Author

Liam Cain is a full time Running Coach.
Blu-Ray Set To Take The World By Storm!

by: Paul Colbert

The Blu-ray Disc belongs to a new generation of optical discs capable of staging high density data. Blu-Ray technology is based on a blue-violet coloured laser. The blue laser operates at a wave length of 405 nm, while older technology such as DVDs and CDs are based on red and infrared lasers that works at 650 and 780 nm. Since the wave length is shorter with a blue laser, the new Blu-ray technology makes is possible to store much more information

The advantage with the Blu-ray technology is that the laser beam can be focused much more tightly at the surface of the disc. Tight focus means that a smaller spot will be produced on the surface on the disc, and when the spots become smaller there will naturally be room for more information on each disc. The minimum spot size of any laser depends on a naturally accruing phenomenon called diffraction. The narrow beam of light sent out from a laser will always diverge into a wider beam eventually, due to the natural diffraction of waves. Diffraction will also occur the waves meet an obstruction. By reducing the wavelength of a laser, we can affect the diffraction.

In Blu-ray technology, the diffractions is also affected by the fact that the lens used to focus the light has a higher numerical aperture than the lenses found in ordinary DVDs - 0.85 instead of 0.6. Blu-ray technology based appliances are also equipped with a dual-lens system of supreme quality, and the cover layer has been made thinner in order to prevent unwanted optical effects. All this makes it possible for a Blu-ray laser to focus on much smaller spots. The optical improvements are accompanied with a new method for encoding data which makes it possible to store even more data on the Blu-ray disc.

The standard for Blu-ray technology has been developed as a joint venture between several major manufacturers of PCs and consumer electronics, including Sony and Philips. The group is called the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA). The first Blu-ray recorder was launched in Japan in 2003, by Sony. Today, Samsung, JVC, Matsushita (Panasonic) and LG Electronics are all examples of companies using Blu-ray technology in their products. Hewlett Packard has announced that they will release desktop PCs equipped with Blu-ray technology in late 2005.

The main competitor for the Blu-ray technology is the HD DVD format which is also capable of storing more information than a normal DVD. The Blu-ray technology does however allow for more information per layer than the HD DVD format ? 25 GB compared to 15 GB. The Blu-ray technology will on the other hand most likely be more expensive to support, at least initially, which can make the HD DVD a tempting alternative. In a Blu-ray disc, the data is stored extremely close to the surface. This made the first Blu-ray discs extremely vulnerable to scratching and many users preferred the tougher HD DVD discs. Since 2004, all Blu-ray discs are coated with a clear polymer called ?Durabis? which makes them much more durable. According to the developers of Durabis, the TDK Corporation, a coated Blu-ray disc will work even after being attacked with a screwdriver.

About The Author

Paul Colbert of http://www.blu-ray-world.com is an author of various articles relating to new technology and innovations.
Easy Guide to Buy Digital Camcorders and DVD Camcorders

by: Gagandeep Dhaliwal

A camcorder is a portmanteau word made by combining 'Camera' and 'recorder'. A camcorder is a portable television camera and videocassette recorder. It is an electronic device for recording video images and audio onto a storage device. It contains both camera and recorder in one unit. The camcorders generally contain digital cameras. A camcorder having digital camera or digital technology is known as digital camcorder. A camcorder having dvd facility is dvd camcorder. A camcorder is powered with a camcorder battery.

Sony introduced the first camcorder in 1983, followed by Kodak in 1984. The first camcorders combined the video-camera with an existing full-size VHS/Betamax recorder. These camcorders were large devices that required a sturdy tripod or strong shoulders to stably support the camera's bulk. The majority of these were designed for right-handed operation, except a few that possessed ambidextrous ergonomics.

Sony introduced the first HandyCam camcorder in 1984. The HandyCam could be held and operated entirely within the palm of the operator's hand, made possible by the 8mm video format.

The lens, imager, and recorder are the three major components of a camcorder. The lens gathers and focuses light on the imager. The imager (usually a CCD (charge-coupled device) or CMOS sensor IC on modern camcorders; earlier examples often used vidicon tubes) converts incident light into an electrical (video) signal. Finally, the recorder encodes the video signal into a storable form. The optics and imager are commonly referred to as the camera section.

The recent times are witnessing a great revolution in the camcorders. The camcorders with ultra modern technology are in the market. The mainstream consumer market favors ease of use, portable cheap camcorders and discount camcorders.

There is a great number of websites offering bulks of info on camcorders, cheap camcorders and discount camcorders. There are numerous online sources offers camcorder articles & blogs, camcorder review, digital camcorder review, sony camcorder review, canon camcorder review, sharp camcorder review, kodak camcorder review etc. The guys planning to buy camcorder must go through these reviews and articles, before buying a camcorder.

About The Author

Gagandeep Dhaliwal owns a website on digital camcorders http://www.123digitalcamcorder.com You can check their website for latest deals on buyers guide for a quick review on camcorders http://www.digitalcamcorderguide.info.

5 Minute Guide to Video Editing for Beginners

by: Natalie Aranda

Getting started with video editing is very simple you only need a few items and you can be producing quality movies at home that you will be able to enjoy for many years to come. Maybe even produce a hit Hollywood movie.

The basic items you need are a video capture card, the software to edit, your computer, storage space on your computer and a camcorder, VCR, or you can display your movie on your computer screen.

The process is effortless, all you do is capture the video to you computer using a capture card, then edit your video with video editing software and then download the video that you edited to either tape or burn it to a VCD, CD, or DVD.

Let?s look at your computer first. You will need a minimum of a Pentium II 300 or faster, a minimum of 256 Megs of RAM, but you will get better performance with 512 Megs. You will also desire to have a 30GB drive that is split into 2 separate partitions. This means that you will have a C: and a D:. The C: should be given 10GB and will have all of your software stored there and the D: will be where your audio, video and editing projects are stored. Your graphics card should be a 32 Meg AGP. You can have an 8 or 16 Meg but the quality will not be as good.

Storage is probably the most confusing thing about video editing. Video makers have many choices for storing their digital video files and this is why it can be so confusing.

If you desire creating your own DVD?s then you are going to need lot of storage. The most you can get out of a single sided 4.7 GB DVD is around 2 hours of video. If you are using DV footage you are going to need 13GB per hour of video, this means you will need 26GB of storage and remember you always have extra footage that you need to factor that in as well so you are now up to 39GB of storage space needed. If you are adding other options such as graphics, MPEG2 footage for the DVD and the folder to hold it all then you are now up to 50GB. So, for your 2 hour movie you will need 50GB of space at least.

So, when you begin be sure that you have enough storage on your computer for the type of video that you wish to store.

On to the video capture card and the video editing software. When you first visit the electronics store you will find many manufacturers that create video capture cards. The most popular include

Some of the reputable video capture card manufacturers are: Pinnacle, Matrox, Dazzle, ADS, Canopus, and Digital Origin.

What video capture cards do to put it in simple terms is that these cards use hardware or software compression to digitize your video onto the hard drive on your computer. This way you can edit your video and play it back onto tape or display your movie on your computer screen.

Some times, you can purchase the video capture cards along with the video editing software that you choose. Some of the most popular video capture cards that are packaged with video software include the Pinnacle Pro One which comes with the Adobe Premiere 6 full version, TitleDeko RT, DV Tools 2.0, Hollywood FX, and Impressions DVD. The Dazzle DV NOW AV can be purchased along with the Premiere 6 full version and the DVDit LE.

Having music along with your video can also be accomplished with a MP3 Converter that will allow you to convert your MP3 music into a wav file or the format in which you need for your video. You may also wish to purchase a MP3 Encoder which will allow you to Wav or other formats into a MP3. A CD ripper is another item that you may wish to purchase that will help with converting your CD?s to MP3, WAV, WMA type files.

One other software program that will make you life easier when you begin video editing is a MPEG Encoder which is a very easy to use program that will make converting several formats easy than you can imagine. Many of these MPEG converters will aid in converting DVD, VCD, AVI, MPEG, GIF, Flash, WMV, WMA, WAV, MP3, MP4, M4A, OGG, AAC, 3GP and even more/

So, now all you need to do is to find the best video editing software that you feel comfortable with and off you go. You can find several different video editing software companies that offer their software on a trial basis, this will let you try out the software so you can see if it is the perfect software for you. But, remember with the trial version you will be receiving the video capture card. You will have to purchase it separately.

About The Author

Natalie Aranda is a freelance writer. She's been experinenting Audio & Video Editing with MP3 Converter http://www.blazemp.com and Video Capture Software href="http://www.blazemp.com/video_capture_software.htm

Corporate Branding ? Don?t Forget Your CDs!

by: Adam Platzer

Companies have been branding their collateral materials such as letterhead, envelopes, business cards, etc. for years. In fact, we often identify a company by its familiar logo or special color scheme. Branding works!! At the same time, many companies send customers and vendors large files, proposals and presentations on CD-Rs. Since CD-Rs have become the ?new and more efficient? way of exchanging important information, it would seem that more companies would find it valuable to brand their CD-Rs also.

Most CD-Rs purchased by businesses come from retail office supply stores. These generic CDs usually have the logo of the retail store or disc manufacturer printed on the label. So why promote the store that sells the media? Companies are missing an excellent opportunity to brand themselves in this manner!

Another positive to branding with this type of media is in the perceived value of the media itself. People tend to keep CD-Rs because they are perceived as something of value.

To make sure that you don?t miss this important branding opportunity, here is the solution! Find a CD duplication vendor who will provide your company with branded media. Yes, you too can brand your company by arranging to have your logo screen printed on each piece of blank media you purchase (ours is pictured above). Also, the quality of the media will be much higher than the media you purchased at the retail office supply store.

When artwork for your company logo is created for CD-Rs, enough room should be left on the disc to write specifics about the disc?s contents, such as version number, serial number, a date, a person?s name, etc. A process called Perfect Printing is an option for customizing this information after your company logo has been screen printed on each blank disc. The combination of your screen printed logo and the Perfect Printing of specific content will give your media a more professional look. Furthermore, anyone looking at your discs will see your company name over and over again.

So, what are you waiting for? Start branding your media today!!!

To find out more information visit on how to brand your CD-Rs visit www.spinergymedia.com.

About The Author

Adam Platzer

Spinergy

CD Replication, CD Duplication, DVD Replication, DVD Duplication, CD Screen Printing

Phone: 800-333-1428

http://www.spinergymedia.com

adam.platzer@spinergymedia.com

Batteries - Charging ahead

by: Eric Comforth

In these days of walk-and-talk and walk-and-work, battery chargers are as much a necessity to business as a microwave oven is to the kitchen. Cell phones, laptops, notebooks, and camcorders, just to mention a few.

But how do they work? Here are some types of battery chargers explained:

?	Solar battery chargers: These little gems use the sun?s energy to recharge batteries. From car, boat and motorbikes to cell phones, DVD players and computers, there is a solar battery charger to suit.

?	Automotive battery chargers: Most automotive battery chargers simply attach to the vehicle?s battery terminals and plug in to mains power. However, there are now new products on the market that work to prevent the battery from going flat in the first place. To comprehend how the process works it is important to understand what causes a battery to deteriorate.

Car batteries rely on a chemical process to provide power. The car battery contains lead plates in a solution of sulphuric acid, which act together to make and store electricity. Over time a residue of lead sulphate builds up on the plates, reducing the flow of electricity. ?De-sulphating? technology reverses this process by using sound waves to dissolve the residue build-up.

Of course this won?t help if you?ve left your lights on at the train station ?

?	Industrial Battery Chargers: These are the big guys. With names such as ferroresonant, Opportunity Charging and Silicon Controlled Rectifier charger, these are heavy-duty long haul pieces of technology. Whether cold storage units, factory or fleet applications, there is an industrial battery charger to suit. Basically though, it is important that the industrial battery charger contains a voltage regulator of some description. This will ensure that the battery is not damaged while it is being recharged.

?	Cell Phone Battery Chargers: It is very important to choose a cell phone battery charger that is designed for the model and type of battery being charged. Likewise, it is prudent to make sure that the battery is, itself, the correct one for the phone.

Choosing the correct battery charger will ensure that the connection points will be compatible and the correct amount of electricity is delivered. If too little electricity is delivered, the battery will not fully charge; if too much, it may overheat. Many cell phone battery chargers today do have a built in system to prevent overcharging, however, it is still important to ensure the charger and battery are compatible.

And to make sure that business, or life in general, isn?t inconvenienced too much due to battery recharging, many cell phone battery chargers now allow the user to make phone calls during the recharging process.

So, the next time you?re out and about walking the talk, spare a thought for the hard-working companion who makes sure your equipment is up to the job. And, the most important thing of all ? never mistake that cup of coffee on your desk for your cell phone battery charger carriage.

About The Author

Eric Comforth is a consultant who writes on many consumer topics.
Designer Handbags for Rent

by: Cathy Feldman

I was surfing the net the other day, and came across an article that left me flabbergasted. As you all likely know by now, I am a designer handbag fanatic. There have been months where I have seriously considered bouncing my rent check in order to buy a purse I simply could not do without. Who am I kidding? I have bounced my rent to buy a new handbag! And I would likely do it again.

Well, it appears that my dilemma has come to an end. I was surfing the net the other day, and came across an interesting article. It was about the burgeoning industry of designer handbag rentals! Now I have heard of luxury car rentals and even designer wedding dress rentals, but I never imagined a day when I could rent the latest Chanel purse. Can you picture yourself going into Blockbuster Handbags and renting the purse you have been saving your money for? I know I can!

There is a company called Bag Borrow or Steal that, as far as I can tell, is the first of a kind. They have a wonderful website, and a business model like no other. It is very similar to Netflix or something to that effect, but you rent handbags instead of the latest DVD. Somewhat similar to renting videos, you pay annual subscription fee and you are given access to a collection of beautiful handbags to use on a temporary basis. The type of bag you are allowed to borrow is determined by your membership level. Memberships range from $19.95 to $174.95 per year. You can keep the bag for as long as you like, but it must remain in the condition you received it in. I wonder if they have an insurance plan.

After doing some research, I discovered another company that is offering something similar. They are called From Bags to Riches, and their service are slight different from the company mentioned above. Instead of charging an annual membership fee, this company allows you to rent on a weekly or monthly basis. The price of the rental is determined by the duration and type of bag you want to rent. This site organizes their collections by brand name, and monthly rentals range from $$19.90 to $79.80. They also offer their customers the option to purchase their rented purse, if they cannot bring themselves to return it. They know me so well, don?t they?

About The Author

Cathy Feldman always wanted to be a famous supermodel.
Defensive Driving - What Are The Choices?

by: Mark Stone

At some point in our driving years I suspect most all of us have to take defensive driving, whether to get rid of a ticket or maybe to just lower our insurance. For many years you only had one option, traffic school. But times and the options have changed.

Traffic school used to consist of getting up early on a Saturday morning or spending two nights during the week sitting in a classroom, listening to a instructor speak in a monotone voice and watching old 16mm films with 1950?s cars and actors explaining the right and wrong way to drive a car. Although that option is probably available if you look for it, these days defensive driving class has gone high tech.

So what are the choices?

* - Traffic school with a twist: Some of the options you can choose from if you?re looking for an in-class experience is humorous traffic school, traffic school with a meal, juggling and magic defensive driving classes.

* - Online defensive driving: Yes the power of the Internet has fueled the growth of online defensive driving. Taking the course online can have its drawbacks, especially if you don?t have broadband access.

* - DVD or VHS defensive driving: You can rent these at your local video store and now at least one school, is offering customers the ability to order the course online, have it delivered to their door and then keep the dvd or vhs. That?s right, no returns so of course that means no late fees.

So what's right for you? Well, this article can't answer that question but you can. You need to consider your schedule, how quickly your court date is coming, how important taking a class alone or with people is to you and maybe even what it takes to keep your head into it.

With these additional choices, taking defensive driving class should no longer be as big of an inconvenience since with two of the choices you can take them around your schedule and even in your underwear if you want.

About The Author

Mark Stone writes for various websites including http://www.busteddriver.com and has actually taken defensive driving several times.

7 Questions You Must Ask Yourself Before Buying a Digital Camcorder

by: Robert Armstrong

There?s never been a better time to buy a digital video camera. Prices are lower than ever, the camcorders are packed with features, and editing software is cheap and easy to use.

Unfortunately, there?s also never been a more confusing time to buy a digital video camera. There are so many different formats competing for your money, it?s almost impossible to know which one to go for. Should you buy a Mini DV camcorder, or a DVD camcorder? What about solid state (flash memory), or hard disk? And is now the time to bite the bullet and buy a high definition video camera?

Confusion reigns, and it?s not helped by manufacturers releasing new models with improved features and lower prices every few months.

Thankfully, there are steps you can take to reduce the confusion and give yourself a clear idea of which type of video camera is the best for you.

Below are seven questions you should ask yourself before you studio a single feature list or read a single review.

? What do I want to use the camcorder for?

? Will I be mostly using it indoors or outdoors?

? Do I want to edit the footage I shoot?

? Do I want the camcorder to be a stills camera too?

? How important is the quality of the video I shoot?

? Is audio quality important

? Will I use a tripod with the camcorder?

The answers to these questions will influence which type and model of camcorder you buy. For example, if you want to be able to edit your video footage on a PC or Mac, you should choose a Mini DV camcorder. And if you are likely to use a tripod, you should choose a camcorder which loads its media from the side or top, rather than one which loads from the bottom.

By answering these questions and learning what the jargon that manufacturers are so fond of means, you can make sure that when you come to buy your camcorder, its exactly what you want and not a costly mistake.

About The Author

Robert Armstrong is the publisher of http://www.master-home-theater-design.com/how-to-buy-a-digital-camcorder.html ?How to Buy a Digital Camcorder? ? a seven part email course which takes you step-by-step through the process of deciding which type of camcorder is best for you. It includes a jargon buster and is available now for $19.95.
